8 Simple Ways To Amazing Curly Hair For Men

8 Simple Ways To Amazing Curly Hair For Men

In this short and quick post we will understand curl texture and ways to tame the frizz for a bouncy, manageable mane. Well, this is going to be a Men’s Edition though. I will soon post one that is women centered, soon. For now, let’s get on with curly hair for men.

Curls, to me, are the most attractive hair texture to have. Although, many people tend to differ in this regard, especially when it comes to guys having ‘em curls. Well, no hate or indifference to guys with not having curls, but curls on guys— yeah, that’s a killer attraction right there! Still whenever we talk ‘curly hair’ or Google search the term, all we find are pictures of beautiful girls with beautiful curls. Rare are portraits of guys killing that texture.

There’s a catch, though…

Curls only look good and boost someone’s appeal, when tamed properly. Wild, frizzy curly hair makes you look like you carrying a bird’s nest on your head. We surely ain’t about magnetising the birds now, are we? But the ladies on the other hand, that is something many guys root for. And even if not ladies, everyone deserves to look good for themselves, especially with a mane like that… why would one want it to go to waste?

So guys with curly hair, listen up: I know you don’t get the attention you so deserve, but it is what I am here for. Not generalizing here, but I haven’t really met guys who care much about their hair health. So to begin with, curly hair tends to get dirty, coarse and frizzy. They do require a lot more care than any other texture in order to look gorgeous, as they should. What if I tell you it is no rocket science and won’t require you to invest a huge amount of time? Interested? Let’s go!

Beautiful Curly Hair For Men

Products every Curly Guy out there needs:

  1. Hair Oils: People have mixed feelings about this product, but I swear by these. A good hair oil will not only make your hair look and feel beautiful, it will also nourish your scalp and promote hair growth. There are plenty of oils in the market which can get confusing no doubt. My holy grail is and has always been, Virgin Coconut Oil. This is a multi-purpose product which can be consumed, in food or by itself. Applied on skin for utmost hydration and plump skin. Removes make-up without stripping skin off of nutrients. Tames frizz in hair making them more manageable and boosts hair growth. There are other great options, like Castor Oil, Argon Oil, Moroccan Oil, Red Pimento Oil, Flaxseed Oil, Red Onion Oil, and Jamaican Black Castor Oil. You can invest in any one of these, whichever suits your budget the best. Oil your scalp and length thoroughly before shampooing, ideally left for overnight and minimum of 3 hours.
  2. Moisturising Shampoo: Curly hair tends to be on the dry side. To get that defined pattern the hair needs to be moisturised from its very core. In order to do that, one must eliminate the drying elements from their hair care, namely, Sodium Lauryl Sulphate (SLS) and Sodium Laureth Sulphate (SLES). Also a few alcohols, ethanol or ethyl alcohol, denatured alcohol, methanol, isopropyl alcohol, SD alcohol, and benzyl alcohol. Opt for a sulphate-free shampoo, there are many in the market out there. Make sure it has a creamy consistency, that way you will only require a little bit. Due to the dry nature of curly hair, you would only need to wash it once or twice a week.
  3. Conditioner: With hair like this, conditioner is your best friend. We need to put a good amount of moisture to avoid frizz. Opt for a Silicone and Paraben free conditioner (it most likely won’t contain the components discussed above and that’s a good thing). There are plenty out there. Leave it on for 5-7 minutes while you get done with the rest of your shower.
  4. Deep-Conditioner: Now you might ask, if we already applying conditioner, why deep conditioner too? Isn’t it unnecessary? Let me tell you straight up, NO. Deep conditioning is not unnecessary. In fact, it is essential for a healthy mane and scalp. As the name suggests, this product conditions more deeply than a regular conditioner. Opt for a good deep conditioner, mostly in the form of hair masks/masques. They do cost a little bit more, but the results are worth it. Also, you need to do it once a week, at most twice if your hair is too dry. So it should last you quite a while and your hair will thank you for it.
  5. Leave-In Conditioner: I know, another conditioner?! Well, this one’s for styling purpose, post shower. Best applied on wet hair, take a little bit of leave in on your palm, emulsify a little bit and apply it on your hair length. Do not apply on scalp.
  6. Curl Mousse: Not a necessity, but if you want that extra definition, definitely a worth it product. Take a pump (it mostly comes in a foam nozzle bottle, texture is like whipped cream) spread it in your hands and apply like the leave in. It helps your hair stay in their current defined form for longer than it normally would.
  7. Hair Gel: All this hard work just to let it go to waste in a few hours? Nope. A gel seals all the work we put in till now and provides that shine you yearn for. Take a generous amount of hair gel on your palm, and scrunch it in your hair strands. You can also finger coil after this if you wish and have the time. Once you done with all your hair, let it dry. Once it is dry, take a cotton tee and scrunch your hair upwards to break away that cast the gel leaves on your hair (the cast should make your hair feel like wires on drying).
  8. Diffuse: Many, many people prefer to skip this step and let their hair air dry. I personally do that, mostly because I do not have the time. Also, I have pretty long hair. Basically, the way diffusing differs from traditional blow-drying is, it has a poky spikey outlet, like shown below. This is the diffuser attachment and it helps to distribute air to the roots uniformly. For more definition, use high speed and high heat. Depending on your hair thickness and device power, it should take you around 7-10 minutes. Take a bunch of your hair and put it over those spikes, take the dryer to the roots picking up the hair and once at the roots only then switch it on. This reduces frizz. Once your hair is about 80% dry, hit a cool shot of air (most driers come with this setting) and let the rest air dry. Watch this video on how to diffuse properly for men.

There you have it guys (literally), your ultimate guide to voluminous, bouncy and well-defined curly hair. Never hide that texture and remember, frizz is a part-and-parcel of curly hair, inevitable, but rock that little frizz too. I am sure when you follow these steps and get that amazing mane, you and everyone else will surpass that little frizz, which by the way, contributes to that volume!

Too many people have no idea that fast growth shampoos (obviously without any sulfates, parabens or DEA) are a thing. Persons now may possess longer hair and have more alternatives. Undoubtedly worth considering.

When you’re discussing alopecia, damaged hair, preventing hair disorders, hair growth, hair and scalp care at large, very similar ideas become relevant.

Generally, you should try to stay away from hair products and treatments that use chemicals like parabens, DEA and sulfates.

What is healthy for your hair is good for your skin as well.

It goes without saying the content on this page is spot on for so many reasons. It avoids the usual pitfalls and errors too many fall into- getting ineffective alternatives. Thank you so much!
